Mommy Confessions ~~ Manners = Uppity?

This morning, I'm scratching my head about something.  I'm hoping someone can enlighten me or help me out with this one.  Here is the scenario.

Last night about 8ish, I headed to the grocery store that's right around the corner from my house.  It's smaller, with smaller aisles, so you DO have to wait for someone to move to the side before you can proceed down an aisle.  I have no problem with this.  I actually like it because it causes people to interact and not just think about themselves (that's a whole other topic though).  I finish gathering the items I need and head to the check lanes.  I check out and had 3 bags plus a gallon of milk.  No reason to push a whole cart out of the store for that.  So, I return the cart to its "home" and begin toward the door.  Right about then a lady comes rushing through the in door and runs smack into the bags I was carrying, almost knocking them out of my hands.  I looked up and said "I'm sorry, pardon me."  Her reply "Get out of my way you uppity b-word".  Um, what?  How does apologizing for something and saying excuse me mean I'm an uppity b?  Was she offended that I actually HAVE manners?  I really don't get it. 

The thing is, I've been called something like this before.  At the same store.  It just really bothered me that I would get called a name for using manners.  Is the world really that rude a place these days?  I don't live under a rock or anything, but I also don't allow my family to get away with rude behavior.  Oh, I just don't know.  Maybe I AM and uppity b and just don't know it....HAHAHA.

Advice?  Insight?

I know what you're thinking, this is a post complaining about the older generation of people.  Quite the contrary.  It isn't. 

I went to the store last week, with all 3 children in tow.  I'll be honest and let you all know that unless necessary, I try to avoid doing this.  I will shop at midnight on a random weekday before trying to take all 3 of mine out.  It's not that it's an inconvenience.  It's not.  It's just that with 3 so close in age, they can gang up on me make me feel overwhelmed.  I have one who LOVES to help Mommy do the shopping.  One that refuses to ride in the cart anymore.  One that will ride in the cart, but ONLY if she can have a make-up compact or iPod to play with.  It can get very draining, especially if you're trying to purchase enough food to last for 2 weeks.  Even with a list, I always forget something.  So, I've taken to shopping late at night.  Alone.  In quiet. 

Last week though, I ran to my favorite Kroger Marketplace.  All three of the kids were with me and it was nearing lunch/nap time.  Yes, they were unusually cranky and naughty while in the store.  I was practically running walking quickly through the store to get what we needed.  Two of the three were running away and I was constantly saying "Come here please.  Put your hand on the cart please."  Still, no listening.  In a futile effort, I grabbed what we needed and headed for the check lanes.  It was there that total chaos broke loose.  They started begging for M&M's (I'm not above bribing in certain circumstances and they know this.  Ugh!).  After repeatedly saying "no" to their questions, I started to get flustered and lose my patience.  It was then the nicest little old lady got in line behind me.  She took one look at me and said "Oh honey, just let them have it.  Too soon they will be grown and gone and then you will have no one to buy M&M's for."  For some reason that struck a chord with me.  I smiled and said something like "It's been a looong morning."  She smiled and said "They look very close in age.  Mine were too.  Trust me when I say you'll wish they could stay like this forever.  Cherish it honey.  They grow so fast!" 

It was right then I picked up 3 full-sized packages of M&M's and paid for them.  Handed each of my kids a package and watched as their eyes lit up!  So, THANK YOU to the lady who got behind me in line at Kroger.  Thank you for reminding me that I may get flustered.  I may get impatient.  I may even want Calgon to "take me away".  In the end though, she was right.  Next time they may not get the full pack of M&M's, but then again, maybe they will...

Target shopping trip

I haven't posted a shopping trip for quite some time. Mostly because I haven't been really going for a lot of things. The stuff I have been buying either rarely has a coupon or is meat, milk, bread...you know, those things that everyone uses.

Today I scored some cool things. Everything in the pictures above cost me $59 and some odd change. I was proud of that. Target is having some awesome sales this week and I can't pass up an opportunity to stock up on notebooks!! I bought two 4-pack notebooks for $.35!! I'm such a note making, to do list person that I go through a lot of paper (and yes, I recycle it when I'm done!). My Target store had their Back-to-School stuff for anywhere from 30% to 50% off. The lunch tote, which I will use for snacks in the van, was clearanced for $2.48! That was a score for me since my old snack carrier just ripped. I love how karma works like that!

I scored the Huggies diapers for $5.99 a bag after coupons and the Pull-Ups were $7.99 a bag. I'm hoping within the next several months I won't need to purchase those Pull-Ups anymore! Talk about saving money!

I also really scored with the Puffs in the picture. There are 4 boxes per package. The package was dressed up for BTS and are now on clearance. I paid $2.78 for a 4 pack and used a coupon! I'm hoping to go and get more later this week and will probably pay the full clearance price for them. Even without a coupon that's still a good deal in my book and really who doesn't use a facial tissue? Especially in the winter!!!!
