Mommy Confession ~Playstation fun

Alright, I'll admit it.  My kids are WAY behind in the technology field.  We don't own a Nintendo DS or DSi.  We don't have a Wii (shock, surprise, fainting).  We would like to have them, but they aren't on our list of priorities.  I'm not even sure my kids know what they are to be honest.  I DO have an iPod Touch (1st gen) that I download games on for them, but they are strictly educational.

That all changed last night.  Hubs pulled out the old Playstation 2.  We've had it for YEARS!!  I don't think it's been used for about 6 years.  Last night though, Hubs thought it might be fun to see the kids' reactions to playing a game on the TV.  They loved it.  While they aren't very good with the controls or anything, they had a fun time trying to learn.  It was fascinating for them.  The laughed, giggled, got flustered (which was quickly resolved by small lessons from Dad), and generally had a good time.  I was all smiles watching the whole evening unfold.  Times like these make me the happiest.

Now, for those who may be wondering, why aren't those things priorities?  Well, I think we have a different approach to parenting than many others.  Our kids have around 2 hours of TV per day and that's it.  The rest of the time they are playing outside, playing with their toys inside, creating something, or using their imaginations.  The TV is rarely on until the kids are all tucked away in the evening.  It's a different way of doing things I know.  I'm sure my kids aren't going to be the most up-to-date on games, etc. but that isn't a bad thing in our book.  Maybe when they get a little bit older we'll invest in something, but for now, I'm enjoying their creative stories, art, and love of all things playworthy.

  1. Give it time Kandi. Your kids will figure out those controllers and put Chuck to shame.
We still play our old Xbox. While we do have other systems. We still like the old ones.
