Powerful words.

I'll admit it, I watch the Superbowl for the commercials only.  I'm not a big football fan at all (well, unless it's my college team).  Pro football typically doesn't even get a blip on my radar.  The Superbowl is something different though.  I love to watch it!  I think that it may have something to do with having 3 brothers growing up, but I don't know.  Anyway, last night the commercials made me giggle (hello Volkswagon/Darth Vadar commercial), roll my eyes (Snickers), and even gag a few times (GoDaddy and Sketchers..this one is seriously nas-tay!).

By far though, the commercial that caught my attention the most was the Chrysler spot that featured Eminem.  As Chuck and I were sitting and listening to the dialogue I notice Chuck's head start to bob.  I was so intent on the words being spoken that I completely missed the music from 8 Mile in the background.  Once I caught it I said "No way Eminem is in a commercial".  Sure enough, it was him.  And in one little sentence "This is the Motor City.  This is what we do."  my heart swelled with pride.  Yes, ultimately it was a commercial for the Chrysler 200, but to me personally, it resonated so much more.  It was like he stood there and declared that Detroit will be back.  Detroit is still churning out outstanding vehicles.  Detroit is still there!  It may not be the shining coin of a city it was, but it's still there.  The residents are still there.  The automakers are still there.  The culture is still there.  Kind of an in your face and flip you the bird to all those naysayers.  I loved it!  It cut right to the heart of this Mom!

So, I felt I needed to write about it.  I'm not going to disect it or even judge it.  After all, it was just a commercial.  Yet, when I go to bed still thinking about the effect a 2 minute commercial had on me, I'm going to share it with you.  If you have no idea what I'm talking about, here is the link to the YouTube channel it's located on.  Go give it a glance.  Maybe it will inspire you and restore you're faith in the America.  I hope you see that no one can truly break the spirit of the hardworking Americans.
