Breaking some habits...

posted by Kandi

Well, around here we are in the process of breaking the youngest ones of a couple of habits they have. Our son has this bad binky habit. Well, all of my kiddos are binky kids. I personally think it's an offshoot from weaning a little too early. For our oldest daughter (peanut), it was easy to break her. We told her that her new baby sister would need her binkies and she willingly gave them up. For our son though, this is going to be a little tougher. He LOVES LOVES LOVES his binkies! Now, in his defense, he doesn't get them all the time. He just uses them at naptime and bedtime to help calm him. These days though, I am just tired of having to haul a load of stuff to bed with each of the kids. I also think that once you can talk with a binky in your mouth, it's probably time to take it away. So, my life for the last 2 nights has been awful! He is crying himself to sleep. I go in and comfort him the best I can, but in the end he is just crying for a binky. I feel like the world's worst mom.

Now, just so I don't get any hate mail about all of this, I KNOW he doesn't need it anymore. How you ask? Well, he spent 2 nights and 3 days with my mom this week and we forgot to pack binky. He did just fine. We down for his naps and bedtime without any fussing or crying. I'm beginning to think he's crying for the sympathy effect. Hopefully this won't last long...keep my (and my sanity) in your thoughts this week!!!

  1. Don't beat yourself up about this. You are doing the right thing. I would say not like you see any 10 year old walking around with binkies but that my friend is why I don't like them in the first place.Anyways keep it up. The first few days are always the worst. Think of it like smoking you get thru the 1st week and the rest is a breeze..
